If she only knew...

Almost every night at bedtime, Abby asks me to sing her "The Cottage Song", as she calls it, due to her favorite line in the song being - "You and I will settle down in a cottage built for twoooo..."

Sound familiar?

In fear of dating myself a bit here, the actual song is none other than "My Little Buttercup" from the classic 80's comedy The Three Amigos starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short.

Hilarious. One of those movies that you can watch 25 times and still laugh out loud...and pretty much quote every line word for word.

I used to sing "My Little Buttercup" to Abby when she was still curled up in my belly but changed the wording to "My little Abigail"...and it just stuck. I'm pretty sure she thinks I made up the song especially for her. The lyrics do fit her perfectly - "My little Abigail has the sweetest smile..."

If she only knew... :)

PSF - A Perfectly Good Reason

(Noah and I had just picked up Abby from school and had stopped by Sonic for a snack.)

Noah: I have a "sue-prize" for you, Abby. (Hands her a picture he had drawn for her that day.)

Abby: (eyes light up) Thanks, Noah!

Abby: (to me)...For lots of days, Noah is being nice to me and giving me surprises!

Me: I know! :)

Noah: (chimes right in) I give you "sue-prizes" because you are "boo-ti-ful".

Abby: (BIG smile!)

Amidst the little squabbles,
tattle-telling,
and occasional full body tackles,
it's moments like these that remind me how much
they really do love each other.

It's moments like these that turn their mama into mush.

Fishful Thinking Thursday - Sardines anyone?

My kids love to play hide and seek. I always know when Noah has found a good spot because I can hear him giggling two rooms away. Abby's gotten to be a little more discrete now that she's older. She doesn't start to giggle until she knows you are in the room, but she still seems to think that I can't see the shape of her little body all curled up underneath the comforter on my bed.
So when I looked at the Fishful Thinking site today for a Keeping Kids Active idea to do with the kids, this twist on the game of Hide and Seek caught my eye - SARDINES!

I had forgotten all about this game! I remember playing it as a kid and feeling a little claustrophobic as a bunch of us tried to squeeze into my cousin's pantry...but it was always a lot of fun. We played the flashlight version too almost every night one summer when we got a little older. Good times, I tell ya.

There's a slew of Fishful Thinking game ideas and activities to choose from if you are looking for something fun to do with your kiddos this weekend.

I'll follow up next week on how our game of Sardines plays out. The kids loved playing Flashlight Tag a couple weeks ago so I think they'll get a kick out of this too. :)

WordFUL Weds - A little popsicle humor

Noah is quite the jokester.

Knock, knock jokes and riddles are BIG in our house.

His current favorite is - " What kind of phone does a turtle use?"

"A shell phone!"

Imagine Noah's excitement when he found out that
POPSICLES have jokes printed on their sticks!

Two of his favorite things in one!

(Good thing for Mom & Dad too
since our joke supply is fairly limited.
Pat had resorted to looking for knock knock jokes on the internet.)

Hahaha :)

Now my only problem is that we're almost out of popsicles!
(With the kids being sick lately, they've been eating 'em like
they are going out of style.)

Another sick day...

Poor little Abby. She's sick. Again.

Started with a cough on Saturday morning and by that evening, she had a low grade temp of 99.

Yesterday she seemed pretty okay, but by bedtime, her cheeks were extra pink. Fever 100 degrees.

This morning, she snuggled in next to me and could barely lift her head. She was complaining that her head was hurting and of aches in her legs and arms. Fever 100.5.

UGH!

Thank goodness for *Children's Tylenol*. Seriously. It kicked in after about 30 minutes and now she is in her room dressing up her favorite pink teddy bear.

We haven't gotten the flu shot yet, but I was planning to since Abby is in K this year and germs are running amuck. (I really don't know enough about the *H1N1 vaccine to feel comfortable. But the media around here has me totally paranoid.)

I just heard Noah cough a few minutes ago...definitely wasn't too smart of me to let them share my ice cream cone the other day after they quickly devoured theirs. The incessant pleading and whining tends to impede my better judgment sometimes.

Fingers crossed that this passes quickly and this place doesn't turn into a sick house.

Double UGH!

Fishful Thinking Thursday (& PSF) - My 1st photo storybook!

It's that time again for a little Fishful Thinking!

Last night we went on a Nature Sense Walk in our neighborhood and I asked the kids to listen for all the different sounds they heard. An airplane flying overhead, crickets chirping, dogs barking (there are A LOT of dogs in our neighborhood), and leaves crunching under our feet (I still can't believe it's already October). We also started on our Happiness/Gratitude journal that I mentioned last week.

This week I'm excited to spotlight another awesome feature on the Fishful Thinking website, in addition the activities and articles...

You can make your own online custom storybooks by uploading pictures from your computer and describing a Fishful Thinking moment your child or family has experienced and share them with family and friends. FREE!!! (That's just another reason why I love Fishful Thinking so much. The program isn't trying to sell a thing. It's goal is only to provide positive parenting resources. The only product information listed on the site is the nutritional info for Goldfish crackers. That's it!)

(A few tips if this is your first time making a storybook, make sure you resize your pics to less than 2MB. It also takes about 10 seconds for the pictures to upload and there were a couple times that I had to add my picture twice, but it could just be my computer. This thing is a little slow sometimes. Other than that, it was fairly easy to do. Have fun!)
