Inspiring Word for 2011 - Contribute

"You are good. But it is not enough to be good.
You must be good for something
You must contribute good to the world
The world must be a better place for your presence.
And the good that is in you must be
spread to others."

- Gordon B. Hinckley

For the past couple of years, I have admired those who have picked a word for the year. An attribute to aspire to and develop. Being the over-thinker that I sometimes can be, I've never been able to decide on just one word, but after reading this quote, it pretty much hit me over the head.

Contribute good to the world

And I'm hoping that with the help of this little book right here, our family will be able to do just that...

"By small and simple things are great things brought to pass." (Alma 37:6)

I'm finally leaving a comment after blog stalking for awhile! :-) I love that you've chosen a word for this year! My friend just wrote on her blog that she chose the word "Fortify". I shared with her that my word for 2011 is "Cherish".

I want to cherish the little moments that I let pass me by last year...cherish the people in my life! I tend to let myself go through the motions without really enjoying what's happening! Happy New Year!

To answer Michelle's question - There are several activities that younger ones will enjoy and modification ideas are listed too under most of the activities. My kids are 4 and 6. We've started with "Thank You Week" - writing notes and drawing pictures for loved ones. There are other activities like Fire Fighter Appreciation week where you take a treat or cards to a local fire station. There's a make a blanket activity. We made a no-sew fleece blanket last year. The kids helped pick out the material, line up the pieces, and I helped my three yr old cut a few pieces. My kids loved delivering it too. Other ideas - Lemonade Stand for Love, Baked Treats Doorbell Ditch, Pet Week, Sing to Seniors, Letters to Grandparents, Assemble a Newborn Kit...a lot of neat ideas!

And Morgan - I love those words too. You will have so much to cherish this coming year welcoming another sweet baby into your family. :)

I love it! We just used that quote as the theme for a YW lesson that we did as a presidency.

That book looks great. Did you buy it at the store or order it? Sounds like it has a lot of fun ideas.

I need to post my word for the year on my abandoned blog! I have had one in mind just need to get it posted!

Hey Diana - We are always on the same wavelength, aren't we? haha :) I bought it at Time Out for Women where the Merrilee Boyack spoke. It was awesome. I bet you could pick it up at Deseret Book. It's also online at deseretbook.com and Amazon.com. It has great family home evening ideas too that go along with the activities.

It is only $3.99 at Deseret Book right now. I love this author. I have another book from her and I love her no-nonsense, practical approach to parenting.

Miss you Kelli!
