Dinner Conversation

"Mom? Can we get a chick-ten for our bact-yard?"

"No, Noah. We can't have chickens."

"Why not, Mom?" (Knowing full well that just around the corner from our neighborhood, there's an old, crumbly house that used to have chickens running out into the road on a daily basis.  "The Chicken House" as we call it. And we just got back from visiting my cousin who also has chickens.)

"We live in a neighborhood, buddy. We aren't allowed to have chickens."

"But why not?"

"You have to live on a farm or somewhere that has a lot of land."

"But I could keep it in my room."

"Um...no. You definitely could not keep it in your room."

"I tould build it a house in the bact-yard."

"Rocket is in the backyard, bud. He would probably eat the chicken."

"We could build it in the FRONT yard..."

"We can't, buddy. We aren't allowed to have chickens."

"Mom, tould we MOVE to a farm?"

Laughing and not really knowing what to say at this point... "You never know, buddy. Maybe someday."

I have a feeling that this won't be the last I'll hear about getting a chick-ten.

I love having these kinds of conversations with my girls. It's so fun to see how their minds work and how they think everything is absolutely possible. It's the naivite (that is not spelled right, I'm sure) that I miss from my childhood. I hate having to think about the consequences of everything.

Haha! That is so cute. Sounds like my kids. They are constantly asking me for animals. And I love animals so I usually give in. Hehe. I would love chickens too. ;)

When my Tommy came home from the pumpkin farm with his classmates the teacher told me he fell in love with the pot bellied piglets and was SURE his mom and dad would let him have one. After all, the farmer was giving them away for free!!!! He had an idea of how to build a pen for him and everything. So cute. I think we will have to move to a farm someday. My husband has ALWAYS wanted to live on a farm anyway. ;)

Ahh, poor little guy! I would love to have chickens, too, but our HOA doesn't allow it.
